WE AIM

...at closing the attainment gap between the most disadvantaged children and their advantaged peers through extra tuition in priority subject areas.

WE CHOOSE

...through a rigorous selection process, need-based assessment of priority areas, e.g. disability, vulnerable groups, etc.

WE SUPPORT

...children and young adults in rural and remote communities in Armenia. Furthermore, we give priority to children and young adults who have been forcefully displaced during or as a result of the 2020 war in Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh.

WE CONTRIBUTE

...through the  development  and implementation of various educational programmes for children and teenagers in the most deprived areas of Armenia through partnership with local charities and governmental organisations. We aim to provide vulnerable children with space and equipment, as well as training and support.

OUR TEAM

The Oxford Armenia Foundation was created in December 2020. The decision to set up OAF came as a response to the aftermath of the devastating 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh/Artsakh war that has left nearly a hundred thousand Armenians displaced and uprooted and has caused a deep socioeconomic crisis in Armenia. In these dire times for Armenia and Armenians, our team has come together to give back to the country that made us who we are and to contribute to its brighter future.

OUR STORY

Our trustees and founders have been engaging in volunteering charitable work as members of the Oxford University Armenian Society (OUAS), which has been promoting and popularising Armenian culture, raising awareness about current issues and challenges faced by Armenia, and creating a space to discuss and debate all things Armenian.

One of the Society’s most recent fundraising activities, which was organised by our trustees and founding members, was to raise money for Armenia Fund in support of their humanitarian relief effort in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. Other projects included a local concert in Oxford to raise funds for Syrian Armenians suffering from war and crisis in Syria in 2016.

The Society’s most successful cultural project to date, the Oxford Armenian Choir, has attracted a wide audience and a great number of supporters. The choir includes several members from the wider Armenian community of Oxford and Oxfordshire, not being limited to University members. This is how OAF’s team met and later came up with the idea to start a charity to carry out educational projects in Armenia.

Being part of a wider British-Armenian network and having close ties with other Armenian communities in the UK, we are eager to put our energy, knowledge, professional and life experience at the service of development and prosperity of Armenia. By supporting Armenia’s children, we invest into the country’s future.
